Why Do Celebrities & Sports Players Love Padel?

Recently we saw that David Beckham has (inevitably) taken up the sport of padel while living in Miami. We have also seen ex players like Andrea Pirlo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Peter Crouch regularly playing the sport. It is rumoured that Neymar recently installed not one, but two padel courts at his home and ‘Dragon’ Peter Jones is regularly seen playing on holiday with friends like Bradley Walsh and John Terry.

More and more, we are seeing celebrities and sports players taking up padel tennis. We are also seeing plenty of well known influencers sharing their padel activity on instagram. Gianluca Vacci recently posted his padel game to over 20 million followers on Instagram.

This is only a good thing for the promotion and awareness of the sport, but what is it about padel that appeals to them so much? We look at some of the well known facts about padel that may explain why some of our best known celebrities are actively playing the sport.

Padel is a LOW IMPACT sport & easy on the body.

As people get older it becomes harder to play the sports we used to love. Tennis, football, rugby or running can all take their toll on our bodies. But padel is well known for being easy to play, accessible and easy on our (ageing) bodies! Even people who haven’t played sports for a long time can easily play a game of padel, without being out of action for the rest of the week!

This is another reason why football teams like Manchester City and Liverpool have courts at their training grounds, as padel is a low impact and low risk sport to play.

Padel is SUPER competitive!

We have all found ways to be competitive through our lives and we miss that sense of competition we used to achieve in our younger days! As well as being easy to play, padel gives that real thrill of competition. Even people who are brand new to the sport can give regular players a real challenge. With rallies that go on forever, padel gives an adrenalin rush and allows us to get our fix of competition and achievement that can be lacking in life, without having to spend a fortune learning how to play the game! Golf doesn’t have to be the only sport we play later in life!

Padel is THE most social sport in the world!

You know those doubles rallies in tennis that you get every now and again? The ones where everyone stops at the end and says “WOW what a rally!”…well that’s padel on every point! With always being played in doubles, in a closer proximity than tennis and competitive rallies point after point, padel is the greatest way to catch up with old friends and meet new people.

Not to mention that playing padel, followed by a few beers is the perfect combination!

Let’s hope that this trend and exposure continues to grow. Let us know if you see any more celebs taking up the sport!
